The Azera slots between the Sonata and the Genesis sedan, and, traditionally, it has been Hyundai's slowest-selling vehicle. Hyundai brought out a brand-new Azera for 2012, and although it's still not Hyundai's best-selling vehicle, it is a hot ticket. Hyundai says Azeras typically sit on dealers' lots for an average of sixteen days, which is less time than some of its well-established competition, including the Ford Taurus and the Toyota Avalon. It's not hard to believe -- the Azera offers a lot of high-end amenities at a sane price. Standard features include navigation, a rearview camera, and heated front and rear seats. Perhaps the Azera has a lot of luxury to make up for the complete absence of anything sporty. It's a floaty and refined large sedan, which is exactly what buyers in this segment should expect.
Hyundai Sonata too small? Hyundai Genesis sedan too expensive? The 2014 Hyundai Azera sits in limbo between the two, so it might be just right for you. The Azera is a large sedan with an edgy and attractive exterior, although neither as edgy nor as attractive as the new Toyota Avalon. Two trim levels are available, but even the standard trim is loaded -- as it should be for a starting price of about $33,000. Leather is standard. So are a touchscreen navigation system, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Another interesting standard feature is the cooled glove box, which will keep a Pepsi chilly on a long road trip. The Limited trim adds a panoramic sunroof, rear sunshades, power-folding mirrors, xenon headlights, nineteen-inch wheels, ventilated front seats, and a powerful Infinity sound system. There's only one engine (previously there were two), but it offers ten more horsepower than the previous (larger) top engine. The 3.3-liter V-6 is powerful, but it's smooth more than it is sporty. The Azera is available only with front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission, which Hyundai builds in-house. The Azera is no sport sedan, but it is comfortable and spacious. Front and rear legroom will accommodate everyone but professional basketball players, although the more than 45 inches of front legroom would probably work for most of them, too. If you like its styling and don't care to spend a couple grand more on the sportier rear-wheel-drive Genesis sedan, the Hyundai Azera might satisfy your new-car hunger.
