Vehicle Overview

The Buick Enclave is the automaker’s best-selling seven- to eight-passenger crossover, and was recently refreshed for the 2013 model year. It fits above the compact five-passenger Encore crossover in Buick’s lineup.

The 2014 Buick Enclave comes with a 3.6-liter V-6 that makes 288 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic for an EPA-estimated 16-17/22-24 city/highway in front- and all-wheel-drive forms. It was refreshed for the 2013 model year, keeping the same drivetrain, but making changes to the exterior (front and rear bumpers, trim colors, and subtly restyled grille) and the interior (latest IntelliLink infotainment system, heated/cooled front seat, and material color changes).

Some of the 2014 Enclave's more notable available and standard features include tri-zone automatic climate control, swiveling HID headlights to help see around corners, forward collision alert, a front center side airbag, and a lane departure system.

The 2014 Buick Enclave received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars), and in IIHS earned a rating of good in the four categories in which it has been tested (the highest-available rating is good).

What We Think

The Buick Enclave hasn’t changed much since the refresh last year, but does it need to? We don’t think so. “The Enclave has one of the more habitable third-row seats in the crossover arena. Adults who measure six feet tall and under can sit back there, provided the sliding second-row captains chairs are not all the way back,” we said in a Driven review of the refreshed 2013 Enclave. “The one mechanical change this year is new dampers, and with them the Enclave rides extremely well -- much better than the fancy-pants Cadillac Escalade -- and it even steers and handles decently. It’s also a quiet cruiser, giving credence to all Buick’s talk about 'quiet tuning.'” We took a short trip up north for a skiing weekend and said, “We appreciated the room, quiet, and comfort, although in the bitter cold we would have welcomed a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats, and the interior overall is not as luxurious as a JX35 [now called the QX60].”
