2013 SRT Viper Coupe

2013 SRT Viper Review

New For 2013
After a two-year hiatus, the Viper returns for 2013. The all-new car is now branded SRT rather than Dodge.
Overview
The rear tires span 28 inches on the new SRT Viper, and every inch is needed. How else would you keep something with 640 hp stuck to the pavement? This is the fifth generation of the Viper, and it’s as instantly recognizable as its predecessors. What’s not as recognizable is the name before “Viper,” because this is the first product to be branded an SRT (Chrysler’s Street and Racing Technology division), not a Dodge. Both the Viper and the Viper GTS will be hand-built at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit the Viper’s home since 1995. The only transmission is a Tremec six-speed manual. The Viper GTS has a two-mode active suspension that should enhance track performance. Each Viper gets a different Uconnect Media Center. Chrysler claims that an all-new carbon-fiber hood, roof, and deck lid, along with aluminum door panels, help the car shed some weight, but even the lightest SRT Viper variant is heavier than the first-ever Viper. However, with 640 hp, 600 lb-ft of torque, and a low drag coefficient, this latest Viper should still go like stink in a straight line. And when equipped with the optional SRT Track Package that features soft-compound tires, hyper-black lightweight aluminum wheels, and two-piece vented brake rotors, the Viper should go like stink through the twisties, too.
