What's New for Range Rover Evoque in 2013

A new Pure model just undercuts the $42,000 mark for 2013. That lower price means there’s no panoramic sunroof and less leather is found inside. All Range Rover Evoque models can now be ordered with a color-contrasting roof, and vehicles equipped with navigation include off-road navigation. An automated parallel-parking system is available...more

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, designed at the company’s Gaydon facility and produced in Halewood, is the lightest, smallest, and most efficient vehicle ever produced by the company. It is a stylish compact SUV available as a three- or five-door model in three trims: Pure, Prestige, and Dynamic. Pure is the base model, Prestige adds luxury, and Dynamic is the most expensive. In its second year on the road, the Range Rover Evoque continues the Land Rover tradition of extending exceptional performance on all terrains, combined with reputable good looks both inside and out and a vast number of luxury options.

Exterior

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has approximately a 172-inch length, 77-inch width, 64-inch height, eight-inch ground clearance, 105-inch wheelbase, and 3600-pound curb weight. Its stance contributes to making it probably the most aggressive vehicle ever crafted by Land Rover. In front, it has a rounded hood with the Range Rover signature on it. Below is a thin split grille, sided by a pair of narrow adaptive xenon headlamps. A chunky bumper, air intakes, and daytime running lights round out the remaining parts. From the side, three large windows, black door mirrors, and a flowing design are seen. A rear view portrays another appearance of the Range Rover signature with a large, body-colored bumper and dual exhaust tips protruding out from below. The Pure gets an aluminum alloy roof, while all other models have a panoramic glass moonroof. Standard exterior features include a power liftgate and 19-inch aluminum wheels.

Interior & Cargo

The interior of the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is laid out simply using premium materials. The design is executed through the use of wood and metallic trim. It is roomy enough to fit five passengers. In front, there are plush bucket seats that offer commendable comfort and support. The padded pleather dash is splashed with logically placed controls for easy use. In the rear, there is a bench seat suitable for two passengers, possibly three in a pinch.

The Range Rover Evoque features an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the same one found in the original Range Rover. It uses an improved, intuitive, and responsive interface that sports integration with USB and iDevice. Another perk is the powerful audio system: a 380-watt, 11-speaker Meridian surround system with sound quality that exceeded ones found it much more expensive vehicles. Packages can be added that include even more robust features. A Luxury Package has an upgraded audio system, navigation, digital music storage, and a surround camera system.

Safety

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is backed on a large number of safety features. It has anti-lock brakes on all four wheels, along with emergency brake assist and electronic brake force distribution. Electronic stability control and traction control systems are in place for improved handling on rough and slippery road surfaces. There are driver and front-passenger airbags to protect the head during a frontal crash. Side-impact airbags are installed to protect the torso during a side collision. Overhead airbags are onboard to protect occupants during a rollover or side collision. Knee airbags help to protect the lower extremities of passengers. All seats have height-adjustable head restraints to protect against whiplash-related injuries. Rear seats have TETHER child seat anchors that help securely fit car seats. Seat belts have pretensioners that automatically tighten to help restrain passengers in the event of an accident. Rear doors are built with child safety locks that prevent them from opening from the inside.

Driving Experience

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque comes packed with a 2.0-liter, turbocharged, aluminum, four-cylinder engine–with direct injection and twin variable-valve timing—that spits out 240 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque. It is combined with a six-speed, automatic transmission that has paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel for manual control. Acceleration comes swiftly from a stop, and then continues smoothly. It is capable of moving from zero to 60 mph in roughly seven seconds. Maximum towing capacity is 3500 pounds. Estimated fuel economy is 20/28 mpg city/highway driving and 23 mpg combined.

One of the chief benefits of the Range Rover Evoque is its ability to handle off-road conditions as well as any Land Rover would. On the road, it is just as pleasant–easily cruising on the highway without any trouble and rolling through cities and around towns with finesse. A firm independent suspension makes ride quality stable and sound. Steering is responsive and predictable, allowing for car-like maneuvers in traffic and tight spots. A parking assist feature aids in effortless parallel parking.
