New For 2013
The Vanquish is an all-new model for Aston Martin, replacing the DBS as the British brand’s top model, but you might recognize the styling, the V-12 engine, and the name. Aston Martin previously applied the Vanquish moniker to its most powerful and most expensive model from 2001 to 2007. The Vanquish comes as a coupe for now, but if history is any indication, a folding-roof Volante can’t be far off.
The raciest Aston Martin looks the part, thanks to styling cues drawn from the million-dollar, limited-edition One-77. With uniquely sculpted haunches and lurid fascias, the high-speed, high-performance, high-dollar Aston finally stands apart from its lesser siblings. Carbon-fiber body panels are again part of the pedigree, and Aston has taken new steps to control weight by sprinkling bits of the composite material into the VH architecture. The result is a car that weighs 123 pounds less than last year’s DBS Carbon Edition. Whereas weight has dropped, power has increased, with the 5.9-liter V-12 receiving variable intake- and exhaust-valve timing, a slightly higher compression ratio, and an upgraded fuel pump to generate a 55-hp gain. Total output now registers 565 hp, and torque is up 37 lb-ft to 457. The six-speed automatic transmission (sadly, no manual is offered) is armed with a new launch control system that helps the Vanquish sprint to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds, 0.2 second quicker than the DBS. The Vanquish is capable of a top speed of 183 mph. Nearly seven leather hides are used in the sumptuous cabin, but the best part of the interior might be the redesigned center stack. We haven’t had any seat time yet, but the pictures reveal a dramatic new look that finally pulls Aston Martin interiors out of the 1990s.
ABS, front and side air bags, and stability and traction control are standard equipment, as is a tire-pressure monitoring system.
